Hi!

My name is Aiden Hoyle. I am an Assistant Professor in the Intelligence and Security department at the Institute for Security and Global Affairs, at Leiden University.

About me

My research looks primarily at foreign interference. Specifically, I look at malign information influence - the use of disinformation by authoritarian states to influence publics abroad. My current research examines how different diasporas respond to Kremlin-funded malign information influence, and how democracies can respond to malign information influence. My PhD research looked at how European audiences respond psychologically to Russian state-sponsored media narratives. I used mixed-method designs to investigate both the narrative strategies Russian state-sponsored media use to narrate different states, and how audiences consuming these narratives respond.
